The Winner of $1,500 School Scholarship 2015

Could you tell us a bit more about yourself? Your hobbies or extracurricular activities?

I'm very passionate about music. I've been playing ukulele for six years now and I absolutely love it! I'm also a fairly avid gamer. I grew up playing video games with my dad and I guess I just never stopped. Additionally, I've done my school's robotics program for all four years of high school. My team actually won last year which was very exciting! The great experience with the programs at my school is actually what got me interested in the field of engineering in the first place, and now I can't wait to further my education at a University or college!

How did you feel when you found out you won the $500 scholarship?

I was very shocked to hear the news that I was chosen for a scholarship, it seemed too good to be true. I feel very blessed to have this opportunity!

What do you think about the questions asked on our application form?

I think the questions were very relevant compared to most other scholarship applications. A lot of companies who are sponsoring the scholarships have questions asking about or promoting their own material, and I appreciated that you guys were actually interested in our future plans for college.

Where will you use the money?

It will go towards my college tuition.

Is it relatively easy to get a scholarship to study in the United States or it requires a ton of work and persistence?

You really have to be persistent. It is very easy to get disheartened when you are applying for so many scholarships and getting none of them. I have applied to dozens and so far I have only received one (thanks guys!), but if you are willing to put in the time and effort, it is definitely possible. Not easy and quick, but possible.

What would your advice be to our next year's applicants? What should they pay attention to?

My advice would be to keep working hard. Don’t start slacking as the year comes to a close, try your best in everything you do. Start looking for scholarships right away and get those college applications in early!
