As most people would know, DISH is a leading television and video broadcasting service for consumers in the United States. Over the course of 35 years, DISH has transformed the way we watch TV, making sure that we get just what we want, nothing more and certainly nothing less.
The story of DISH: An unlikely pioneer
Every successful business has bad phases that test the character of the people running the business. This was particularly true in case of Candy and Charlie Ergen and Jim DeFranco – a trio of aspiring businessmen from Meridian, Michigan who wanted to build a successful dish antenna supplying company for people in the United States, especially the ones in remote areas of Midwest, south and North West. So, while hauling a large broadcasting dish to a rural farm in Colorado, a particularly harsh wind knocked the dish off their wagon, turning the company’s worth into half in an instant, as this was one of the only two dishes that had been bought on the limited capital available. DISH has come an exceptionally longer way from there. Today, DISH serves over 15 million subscribers in the country with uninterrupted quality broadcasts. It also employs more than 1000 people and making the FORTUNE 250 list almost every year for last two decades. If you are a DISH subscriber in the United States, you can now save up to 20% per month on your subscriptions, using Chameleonjohn.com special DISH promo codes.
Pioneers in Satellite Broadcasting
DISH was the first private broadcasting company in the world to launch its own satellite. In 1995, a satellite was launched with the help of a Chinese rocket, and within two years, DISH began servicing the people of the United States with direct satellite broadcasts. A fully function and technologically advanced uplink center was established in Cheyenne, Wyoming to feed the broadcasts to the satellite, which then in turn, downlink the broadcast to users of DISH.
Satellite TV required only a small dish antenna, often less than 2 feet in diameter to receive the broadcasts. This was a huge improvement over the stocky dish antennas that went before, with diameters going as high as 15 feet. This convenience of installation turned a majority of cable or broadcast TV consumers to DISH. Also, flexible pricing plans and the ability to choose to pay for only the channel that were watched was important in building the consumer base, through better servicing.
