How it was founded

LoveSac was founded through a quirky idea that a teenager had. In 1996, Shawn Nelson had an idea for a giant bean bag. In his own words, he wanted to make the world’s largest bean bag. He immediately got to work and get a giant piece of cloth and filled it with shredded foam. This was the first LoveSac that was ever made. After completing his graduation and working as a missionary for the Mormon Church for two years – all the while learning to speak and write Chinese – Shawn returned to his hometown and this idea of the giant of a beanbag returned to him, as well. With the help of a few friends and a few contacts, he secured a deal with a local sofa manufacturing company to buy the leftover foam from them every weekend. He used to borrow their foam shredder for free to get all that foam shredded to fill giant bean bags. In 1998, Shawn got the name LoveSac registered in the state of Utah and that’s how the company was started.
