More about Mattel
Matt Johnson and Elliot Handler, two new engineers in the post-World War II struggling economy of 1945 founded Mattel. The name of the company was derived from the first few letters of their first names, ‘Matt’ and ‘Elliot’.
The company was founded with a view to create toys as the market trends would dictate- rather than dictating the market trends themselves. The name of the company was – during first few years of its existence – was Mattel Creations. This outfit mainly product custom made wall frames for family photos and doll house and tree house furniture on demand.
The company managed to survive despite the general economic upheavals during the years.
Uke-A-Doodle
In 1947, Mattel had its first major success for a toy they themselves had designed and manufactured. Uke-A-Doodle was a miniature ukulele and doodle combined with special effects like flute and bass included. This turned out to be a great hit among children and soon Mattel managed to get themselves incorporated in the state of California. They established their HQ at El Segundo, California. 1955-60 also marked an innovative marketing strategy of sponsoring Disney Events – especially the Mickey Mouse Club – to promote their brand.
Barbie Doll
Barbie Doll was introduced in 1959. This turned out to be the single largest selling toy in not only the history of Mattel itself but the history of toys in general. During its first five years, Barbie Doll managed to sell more than 6 million units, making Mattel a household name. The accompanying Barbie accessories also were received with great enthusiasm. Even today, Barbie is the prime product at Mattel.
Hot Wheels
If Mattel had girls thrilled with the Barbie, they soon got the boys some of the best car toys under the Hot Wheels series. Hot Wheels series was so enormously popular that Ford even manufactured some limited edition cars based on their design. Hot Wheel are still in the market and new additions every year make the series more and more popular.
Mattel has since then produced dozens of iconic toys that have been an indispensable part of the childhood of millions of people worldwide. If you want to buy some cool toys at Mattel with some nice and unexpected discounts, all you have to do is use the Mattel coupons listed on Chameleonjohn.com!
