History

New Era was founded – like so many other companies – by an immigrant with no means and a bright idea. Ehrhardt Koch, an immigrant for Germany to the United States in the early years of the twentieth century, founded New Era in Buffalo, New York. The company name was changed from New Era Clothing to New Era Cap Co. in 1922. The demand for New York Gatsby caps were at an all-time high then, earning New Era valuable customer base in rural and Middle America. This was to be the beginning of what would become a journey that would include hundreds of families directly or indirectly along the way.
