Ken Knudson started Sybaris in 1974 as a luxury resort for couples. Named after the Italian city of luxury and sensuous pleasure, the concept evolved when Ken and his wife were attracted to a romantic bedroom set and installed it in their house. His wife’s friends loved it and remarked how they wished to have such a romantic place hidden away from their kids and in laws. Ken was quick to realize the absence of privacy and seclusion in a couple’s life and since then, for more than four decades his concept, Sybaris has been providing couples with a much-needed place to escape.

• Chalet Swimming Pool Suite - Multi levels of luxury with a private garage, private 22' swimming pool heated to a cosy 90-92 degrees, bedroom loft with 10' waterslide, tropical waterfall, soothing hot tub, misting steam room, cosy fireplace and massage chair.  (Available at Frankfort- Illinois, Northbrook-Illinois, Mequon-Wisconsin, and Indianapolis-Indiana)
• Majestic Swimming Pool Suite- More spacious than the paradise swimming pool suite, private 22' swimming pool heated to a cosy 90-92 degrees, tropical waterfall, soothing whirlpool tub, misting steam room, cosy fireplace and massage chair. (Available at all locations)
• Paradise Swimming Pool Suite- Private 16' swimming pool heated to a cosy 90-92 degrees, tropical waterfall, soothing hot tub, misting steam room, cosy fireplace and massage chair. (Available at all locations)
• Swim Spa Suite- 13' therapy pool with jets and seats like a hot tub at one end and a swim jet at the deeper end, steam shower with body jets, cosy fireplace and massage chair. (Available only at Northbrook-Illinois)
• Deluxe Whirlpool Suite- More spacious than the classic whirlpool, 5'x7' soothing whirlpool tub, misting steam room, cosy fireplace, massage chair. (Available at all locations)
• Classic Whirlpool Suite- 4'x6' soothing whirlpool tub, cosy fireplace, love swing. (Available at Northbrook-Illinois, Downers Grove-Illinois, and Mequon- Wisconsin) (Love swings available exclusively in the Classic Whirlpool Suite at Downers Grove)
• Country Whirlpool Suite- 4'x6' soothing whirlpool tub, ben franklin fireplace, country style furniture with a queen size bed and patio with adjacent courtyard.(Available at Mequon- Wisconsin)
• Booking Options - According to your convenience you can select from multiple reservation options such as the Overnight Getaway (6pm to 11am), the Afternoon Getaway (12.30pm -4.30pm), the Multinight Getaway or the Overnight Afternoon Getaway (6pm to 3pm).

The Membership

Sybaris operates not as a hotel but as a private club. The membership can be purchased with the first reservation. There are two kinds of memberships – the Annual and the VIP.  Under the Annual membership, members receive special discounts on bookings and special prices on romantic gifts. With the VIP membership the couples can also get a free afternoon extension with every Overnight Getaway.
