Dali Museum is a unique museum that was opened in 2011, in St. Petersburg. This museum is a real gem for all Dali’s admirers, because it exhibits not only his oil paintings and the most famous artwork, but many other things that should interest every art enthusiast. In Dali Museum you can find paintings, sculptures, book works and many important documents from Dali’s life. Dali Museum allows you to see not only the artwork of Salvador Dali, but to get a little bit closer to him and to learn a little bit more about his life and career.
This museum was founded by Reynolds and Eleanor Morse who started their collection in 1943 when they bought the first painting by Salvador Dali. After visiting a travelling Dali retrospective in 1942, Reynolds and Eleanor Morse became fascinated by Dali and his art and decided to add more and more to their collection. After more than 40 years, this collection grew incredibly and it was only a matter of time when all this will be exhibited in the museum.
The Dali Museum has displayed all Dali’s paintings in chronological order, so it is easy to see how Dali’s art and perspective changed over time. Small salons in the museum contain paintings that Dali labored in the last decades of his life. You can also find there a place which is dedicated to explore his personal life and allows you to learn more about Dali’s life through the photographs, films and other pieces of art that he has made.
This museum, unlike the other museums, also encourages young artists and painters to submit their artwork that is inspired by Salvador Dali and his art, and exhibits some of the successful paintings. Dali Museum is truly a place that not only explores Salvador’s Dali life but also inspires many new artists to create.
