1. Check your posture

We cannot emphasize on the same enough on the importance of the right posture. The right posture when used can make a big difference to your height. Even if you aren’t vertically blessed, when you stand straight and sit straight, you would look tall. While walking, sitting or standing, a hunch back makes you look shorter than what you already are- no more slouching should be your pledge, and hold those shoulders back.

2. High waist clothing

Shorts, skirts, pants, lehengas or petticoats- wear them high waist and this is one silhouette trick that makes the onlooker feel you are tall. Wearing high waist bottoms helps elongate the lower half of your body, and it also helps flaunt your waistline too. Style the high waist bottoms with crop tops, tailored blouses or cholis or heavily embellished tunics which help distract the eyes to the upper half while elaborating the lower half of the body.

3. Vertical stripes

Play with vertical stripes for the bottoms, as much as you can. Vertical stripes help add length to the legs and hence makes you look tall and nice. Horizontal lines on the other hand are best for girls with a petite width to their waistline, adding more width to their dimensions.

4. A little skin show is good

Metallic shades to nudes or neutrals and light shaded footwear is a must-have, which allows you to expose more skin and feet. This helps with the lengthening effect and allows for an illusion of height to come through. You could also opt for roman sandals or gladiator lace ups too!

5. Monochromatic fashion

To create more vertical bliss for your fashion statement, we would advise going monotone or monochromatic in hues. The same colored hue would help you create an illusion of length from top to toe. This would also bring about a leaner look to you when you wear a monochromatic number, since it wouldn’t have a separation from the upper to the lower half to drastically flaunt.

6. No baggies

Stop wearing baggy pants and shirts, even if they are very comfortable for the Indian climes. Avoid anti-fits and baggies like the plague, since they only add width and not height. What you should wear are fitted and structured clothing numbers, tailored ensembles that add more inches to your height. Even full length dresses with too much embossments or embellishments, heavy fabrics and elastic bands too wouldn’t be advised to wear- ruffles too in plenty would make you look small.

7. Your hairstyle matters

Chop and trim the super long tresses, or tie them into a top knot. This brings around an illusion of height. Faux bobs, top knots, pixies, blunt bobs et al help with more height addition, while the loose long hair makes you drown in a sea.

8. Small bags

Carry a small tote bag or a clutch as much as possible, Malaika Arora shows you how a small tiny bag can add inches to your height- an illusion to play with. Big bags are bulky and add more width to your look, making you Thumbelina’s sister.
